Ramapo Police closed Sterling Mine Road around 8:30 a.m. Monday after the fire department reported the downed lines.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area for at least the next several hours as crews work to repair the lines, police said.
Moderate to heavy rain will continue until early Monday afternoon on a breezy day with a thunderstorm possible. The high temperature will rise to the mid-50s but wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour will make it feel colder.
An average of about 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is expected, with locally higher amounts.
There could be scattered showers Monday night and Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high around 50 degrees.
